With the Shou-Sugi-Ban technique, variable or uneven degrees of firing are possible, whereby a “flickering” effect can be achieved in the wood. The texture and relief of the wood are emphasised by the natural background’s darkening from gold to silver-black. This technique was used in our project in Nuremberg. Here, the striking relief of the wood gives the two-storey facade an elegant look.
